Recent Deck Project on Creekwood Dr, Burr Ridge, IL

Transforming Outdoor Living in Burr Ridge

We recently completed a two-part deck replacement project on Creekwood Dr in Burr Ridge, IL that completely transformed the home’s outdoor spaces. The property originally featured an aging wood deck system including a small side deck with stairs near the garage and a large elevated front deck off the second floor. Over the years, the wood had weathered and required more maintenance than the homeowners wanted.

Our goal was to design and build a durable, low-maintenance composite deck system that would complement the home’s brick siding, improve safety, and create a beautiful space for outdoor living.

The old deck was functional but dated. The railings, wood boards, and stairs all showed signs of wear, making the space less inviting for everyday use.

The Main Front Deck (500 sq. ft.)

The largest part of this project was replacing the elevated front deck. Here’s what we did:

  • Size & Layout: 32’ x 18’6” free-standing design, elevated approximately 104 inches.
  • Materials: Composite decking and composite railings for a modern, low-maintenance finish.
  • Foundation: Built on M2 Helical Piles with concrete post brackets for maximum stability.
  • Structure: Pressure-treated southern yellow pine framing, supported by 6×6 posts and secured with galvanized hardware.
  • Stairs: Custom staircase landing on 42” deep concrete footings, with safe risers and treads built to code.
  • Finishes: Westbury aluminum structural railing posts paired with composite infill, ensuring long-term durability.

This front deck not only enhances curb appeal but also provides the homeowners with a safe, spacious outdoor gathering area.

The Rear Side Deck (150 sq. ft.)

On the side of the home, we replaced the small access deck next to the garage doors.

  • Size & Layout: 14’ x 7’6” with an additional 7’6” x 4’6” section, complete with dual staircases.
  • Materials: Composite decking and matching composite railings.
  • Foundation: M2 Helical Piles and concrete footings for long-lasting support.
  • Structure: 2×8 framing with galvanized connectors for strength.
  • Design: Two staircases allow for easy entry and exit while maintaining safety with railings on both sides.

This smaller deck creates a practical, attractive transition point to the backyard and garage area.

The finished result is a pair of composite decks that blend seamlessly with the home, require almost no maintenance, and are built to last for decades. The homeowners now have outdoor spaces that are safe, modern, and perfectly suited for both everyday use and entertaining.

Why This Project Stands Out

This project showcases how modern composite materials and thoughtful design can revitalize a property’s outdoor living areas. By replacing high-maintenance wood with durable composite decking and railings, the homeowners now enjoy the benefits of a beautiful deck without the constant upkeep.

Both decks were built in full compliance with the 2021 International Residential Code (IRC), Cook and DuPage County building codes, and all relevant Illinois standards.
