Installer
Serving Naperville, Plainfield, Aurora, Downers Grove, Hinsdale, Oakbrook Terrace, and the western suburbs.
Roll a screen down when the west sun hits the table or the mosquitoes come out, then roll it back up into its housing when you want the view back. Corradi screens run on a crank or a motor, and each one is made to measure for the opening.
Wolf Spirit Deck is an authorized Corradi installer and a deck builder, so we also deal with what the screen meets at the bottom: railings, deck boards, and uneven slabs. Call (312) 765-3998 or request a free quote.

What An Exterior Screen Does For A Naperville Porch
An exterior screen is a retractable vertical shade that drops along the open side of a covered space. Fabric rolls onto a tube at the top and pulls down between two side guides.
The usual screened porch has fixed panels, so you look through mesh in January the same as in July. A retractable screen disappears when you don’t need it. When you do, it can cut the low sun that comes in under a roof and turn a patio into a screened-in room, depending on the fabric and side guides.
Corradi says these screens can handle sun, climate, privacy, and insects, along with light wind and rain. The screens aren’t a storm wall, and the wind section below explains why that matters here.
We’re an authorized Corradi installer, and every installation is done by our own crew.

What Are You Trying To Block?
The fabric and side guides often matter more than the model. Start with the problem, and the rest of the choice gets simpler.
| The Problem | Fabric To Look At | What Else Matters |
|---|---|---|
| Afternoon Sun And Glare | SunTex or SheerWeave. Soltis Perform 92 blocks up to 97% of heat in exterior window use | A higher blocking percentage cuts more sun, and it also shows you less of the view |
| Mosquitoes And Other Bugs | TuffScreen or TuffScreen No-See-Um | Choose ShyZip® tracks, which hold the fabric edges. Cable guides only steady the fabric |
| The View From Next Door | A higher-blocking solar fabric, or Soltis Opaque for total darkness | Mesh fabrics are harder to see through from the bright side, so with your lights on at night, neighbors can see in more easily |
| Light Rain | Soltis Proof 502 or W96, which are waterproof, or clear vinyl windows | Corradi lists light to moderate rain, depending on the fabric. Screens protect the sides, so you still need a roof overhead |
| Cool Spring And Fall Evenings | Clear vinyl windows with fabric borders | They can hold in some heat and keep the view, with size limits and no warranty coverage on the vinyl |

The Five Corradi Screen Systems
Once you know the fabric, the choice mostly comes down to how wide the opening is and how you want the housing to look.

Summit
The Standard Choice
Corradi’s most popular screen, designed and made in the U.S. It has a curved cassette, with a square front as an upgrade, and fits most porch openings at up to 18 feet wide.
- Up To 18′ Wide
- Manual Or Motorized
- ShyZip® Or Cable Guides

Harbor
For The Long Span
Built on the Summit design with a larger cassette and a sturdier roll tube, for openings over 20 feet and heavier fabrics. It fastens directly to the ceiling, soffit, or wall without brackets.
- Up To 23′ Wide
- Manual Or Motorized
- ShyZip® Or Cable Guides

Vista
Hidden In A Pocket
An open roll with no cassette. Put it in a ceiling pocket of at least 7 x 7 inches and the whole mechanism disappears when the screen is up. That works best if you plan it before the ceiling is finished.
- Up To 23′ Wide
- Wall, Ceiling, Or Pocket
- Manual Or Motorized

Zenith
Reinforced For Wind
Corradi’s reinforced screen, with an enlarged bottom bar, reengineered end caps, and a zipper-attached fabric. It’s motorized only and worth a look if your lot catches a lot of wind. Its fabric list is shorter than the others.
- Up To 23′ Wide
- Up To 10′ Tall
- Motorized Only

Horizon
For Overhead Shade
It mounts at any angle, so it can lie flat across the top of a pergola or skylight, and it rolls from the bottom up. One unit covers up to 195 square feet. Horizon is for sun only, and Corradi says it isn’t intended to protect from rain.
- 360° Mounting
- Motorized Only
- Sun Control Only

| System | Largest Width | Largest Drop | Operation | Housing | Mounting |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Summit | 18′ | 16′ (12′ with ShyZip®) | Crank up to 16′ wide, motorized above that | 4.75″ curved cassette, square optional | Ceiling, wall bracket as an upgrade |
| Harbor | 23′ (fewer fabrics past 18′) | 16′ | Crank up to 16′ wide, motorized above that | 5.25″ cassette | Ceiling, soffit, or wall, no brackets |
| Vista | 23′ (no Tempotest or Sunbrella past 18′) | 16′ | Crank up to 16′ wide, motorized above that | None, open roll | Wall, ceiling, or pocket |
| Zenith | 23′ | 10′ | Motorized only | Square cassette | Snap-in brackets |
| Horizon | 15′, depending on drop | 15′, depending on width | Motorized only | 5.5″ semi-rounded cassette | Any flat surface, any angle |

Summit, Harbor, and Vista start at 3′ wide, and their drop can’t exceed three times the width. Maximum height can be less with certain fabrics. Wind Is The Limit For Exterior Screens In Naperville
Corradi’s screen brochure says it’s not recommended to operate or leave its exterior screens down in winds over 15 to 20 mph. A breezy spring afternoon here can get there, so plan around it from the start.
- Side GuidesCorradi highly recommends using guides, since they support the fabric and keep the bottom bar from swinging. Cable guides are for light wind. ShyZip® tracks keep the fabric edge locked in the side channels, which also helps a lot with bugs.
- Wind SensorsIf you’d leave motorized screens down while you’re away, get a sensor. Somfy’s wireless wind sensor and sun and wind sensor can operate the screen automatically. A crank screen has nothing to raise it, so someone has to be home to do it.
- The ZenithCorradi built this one for high winds, and you can watch its wind test here. Its brochure doesn’t publish a wind speed, so ask us for the rating before you count on it staying down in a blow.
- WinterAt the walkthrough, we go over how to set your screens for the off-season. Clear vinyl needs extra care, since Corradi notes it expands and contracts with temperature changes.

If you don’t have a covered space yet, look at a louvered roof or a retractable pergola. We can plan the roof and screens together.
Exterior Screen Fabrics, From See-Through To Blackout
Openness is how much of the fabric is open weave. More open means a better view and more air, while less open means more shade and privacy. These are Corradi’s standard choices.
| Fabric | Good For | What Corradi Says |
|---|---|---|
| SunTex80, 90, 95, 97, 99 | Everyday sun control on a porch or patio | Its most popular exterior fabric, a strong vinyl-coated polyester. The 80, 90, and 95 block that percentage of the sun |
| SheerWeave2000, 2100 | Keeping the view | Filters light and reduces glare and solar heat gain, with good outward visibility when the shade is down |
| TuffScreenStandard, No-See-Um | Bugs, pets, and busy doorways | Insect screening that resists tears and punctures. Not on the Zenith’s fabric list |
| Soltis Horizon 86 | The clearest view in the Soltis line | 14% open mesh, with up to 28% of natural light coming through |
| Soltis Harmony 88 | A balance of view and shade | 8% open mesh with a regular weave |
| Soltis Perform 92 | Heat on a west or south wall | 4% open mesh, blocking up to 97% of heat in exterior window use. Comes in 48 colors |
| Soltis Opaque | Full privacy and room darkening | Blocks 100% of UV, heat, and light. On the Summit, Harbor, Vista, and Horizon fabric lists |
| Soltis Proof502, W96 | Light rain | Waterproof. Proof 502 comes in 40 colors with a 10-year warranty. Not on the Zenith’s fabric list |

Should You Get Clear Vinyl?
Clear vinyl windows keep the rain out without blocking the view, and they can hold in some heat on a cool night. They also have limits worth knowing before you choose them.
Corradi notes that clear vinyl expands and contracts with temperature, can yellow or lose transparency over time, and needs proper cleaning. It’s not covered by warranty. Sizes are also smaller: up to 16 feet wide and 9 feet tall on the Summit and Vista, and up to 18 feet wide on the Harbor, where a drop over 9 feet takes special approval.
We’ll look at your opening and tell you whether clear vinyl makes sense there.
Crank, Remote, Sensor, Or Phone?
Summit, Harbor, and Vista can be manual, while Zenith and Horizon are motor only. Corradi’s motorized screens use Somfy® motors, and the wireless versions open up the options below.
-
Detachable Crank
The base option on Summit, Harbor, and Vista, for screens up to 16 feet wide. Anything wider has to be motorized.
-
Remote Or Wall Switch
Choose a wired switch, a Somfy® Telis handheld remote in 1, 4, or 16 channels, or a battery-powered wireless wall switch.
-
Wind And Sun Sensors
Somfy® wireless sensors can run the screens by sun, wind, or both, so they respond when you’re not there to do it.
-
Timer
The Chronis RTS timer works like a remote with a programmable schedule. It’s handy if the same wall gets hot at the same time every day.
-
Phone And Voice
Somfy’s myLink turns your phone or tablet into a remote, and Corradi says it works with Alexa, IFTTT, and Google Home.
-
Obstacle Detection
The Somfy Maestria motor can detect an obstacle to protect the fabric, but only when the screen has ShyZip® tracks.
Where Exterior Screens Work Around A Naperville House
A covered patio is the most common place, but Corradi lists a few others that people don’t always think of.

Covered Porches And Patios
With ShyZip® tracks and insect screen on each opening, you get a screened-in room that opens back up from the remote.

Pergolas And Louvered Roofs
Screens can mount between the posts of a pergola. Corradi’s Stratus screens are made for Pergotenda® and Alba systems, so ask about them if you’re planning a new roof.

Recessed In A New Ceiling
If you’re building a covered porch, a pocket can hide a Vista completely. We need to know before the ceiling goes up, since the pocket has to be framed in.

Windows
Mounted outside the glass, a screen can block the sun before it heats up the room. That can help with a hot wall of west or south windows.

Garage Door Openings
Corradi lists garage openings as a use for the Summit, Harbor, and Vista. With the door up and the screen down, the garage becomes a shaded, bug-free workspace or hangout.

Pool Pavilions And Outdoor Bars
A long opening over a bar or poolside seating is where Harbor’s extra width helps. You can stop a screen partway to block low sun and leave the bottom open.
Send Us Your Opening Sizes
A rough width and height is enough to start. We’ll come out to measure, check how the screen would mount, and give you an itemized quote at no charge.
What We Check Before We Measure For Screens
Screens are made to measure, so small problems with an opening become expensive once the order is in. These are the things we look for.
- The RailingOn a raised deck, the screen has to land somewhere. It may run outside the railing or down to a new sill, and either one changes the width and drop. Tell us if you’ve thought about changing the railing, too.
- The FloorDeck boards and older patios are rarely flat and level. A gap under the bottom bar lets bugs in, so we look at how the fabric will meet the floor all the way across.
- The PostsTracks need a solid, straight surface on each side. We check for posts that are out of plumb, as well as wraps or trim that may need to change.
- The TopStandard Summit brackets fasten to the ceiling or soffit, and a wall bracket is an upgrade. We check what’s behind the finish and whether the cassette will clear doors, lights, and ceiling fans.
- PowerMotor cords are usually 6 to 10 feet, with lengths from 3 to 24 feet available. We work out where the power comes from and how to hide the cord.

Need a covered deck before you can add screens? We build those too. See our Naperville deck building page or our composite deck page.
Do Exterior Screens Need A Permit Or HOA Approval In Naperville?
It depends on the job. Adding screens to an existing roof is a smaller project than building a new structure, but a few things can change the answer.
- New StructureIf the screens are part of a new deck, porch, or pergola, the City of Naperville requires an issued permit before work starts. We’ve pulled hundreds of deck permits here and handle the drawings and inspections.
- Enclosing An Open PorchThe City has a separate permit for room additions and alterations. Screens that close in a porch, clear vinyl in particular, are worth asking about, and we check before you order.
- Wiring For MotorsThe City also lists an Electrical and Low Voltage permit. If a motor needs a new circuit or outlet, we find out what applies to your project.
- HOA ReviewTall Grass, White Eagle, and Ashbury all want a submittal package before exterior work, and we’ve been through the process with each. Fabric color shows from the street or golf course, so we include your fabric and frame colors in the package.
How We Install Exterior Screens
A screen job is smaller than a roof job, and most of the risk is in the measuring, so we do that ourselves.
- Free Visit And MeasureWe measure each opening and check the posts, ceiling, floor, railing, and power. We also ask what you want to block, and from which direction.
- Fabric, Guides, And ControlsYou choose the fabric, frame color, side guides, and how you want to run the screens. You get the quote in writing, itemized line by line.
- Any Paperwork And PrepWe take care of any permit or HOA submittal and any work the opening needs while Corradi builds your screens to measure.
- Installation And WalkthroughOur crew installs the screens and sets the motor limits and any sensors. Before we leave, we run each one with you and go over the wind limit and winter setup.
What Affects The Cost Of Exterior Screens In Naperville
Each screen is made to measure, so we don’t publish a price list. These are the things that move the number on your quote.
-
Number And Size Of Openings
Each opening usually gets its own screen. A screen over 16 feet wide has to be motorized.
-
Which System
A standard Summit, a wide Harbor, and a Vista in a pocket are different jobs with different hardware.
-
Fabric
Solar mesh, insect screen, waterproof fabric, and clear vinyl all behave differently and have different limits.
-
Side Guides
You can choose ShyZip® tracks or cable guides. If bugs are the reason you’re buying, ShyZip® is the one to price.
-
Controls
A crank is the base option. Motors, remotes, sensors, timers, and phone control add to it.
-
Frame Color And Power
Custom RAL colors carry a surcharge, and any new outlet or wiring is part of the job.
Frame Colors
Summit, Harbor, Vista, and Zenith come in nine standard matte colors, and Horizon comes in white gloss. Custom RAL colors are available. Colors look different on a phone or monitor, so please don’t make the final choice from this page.

Exterior Screen Questions We Hear In Naperville
How Much Do Exterior Screens Cost In Naperville?
It depends on the number and size of the openings, the system, the fabric, the side guides, and the controls. Each screen is made to measure, so we don’t publish a price list. We’ll measure and give you an itemized written quote at no charge.
Can Exterior Screens Stay Down In The Wind?
Only in light wind. Corradi’s screen brochure says it’s not recommended to operate or leave the screens down in winds over 15 to 20 mph. If you’d leave motorized screens down while you’re away, add a wind sensor. The Zenith is built for high winds, but its brochure doesn’t publish a wind speed, so ask us for the rating.
Do Exterior Screens Keep Bugs Out?
They can, if you set them up for it. Choose an insect screen fabric such as TuffScreen or TuffScreen No-See-Um, use ShyZip® tracks, and make sure the bottom bar meets the floor. Corradi lists this setup as a way to create an insect-proof screened-in porch on the Summit and Harbor.
Are Exterior Screens Waterproof?
Most aren’t. Corradi says screens can handle light to moderate rain, depending on the fabric. Soltis Proof 502 and W96 are waterproof, and clear vinyl windows also keep rain out while preserving the view. The Horizon is for sun only and isn’t intended to protect from rain.
Can I Still See Out Through The Screen?
With most solar fabrics, yes. A more open fabric gives you a better view. Soltis Horizon 86 is 14% open and has the best outward visibility in that line, while Soltis Perform 92 is 4% open and blocks more heat. Soltis Opaque blocks everything, including the view.
Do Exterior Screens Give Privacy At Night?
Mesh fabrics give more privacy from the darker side, so with your lights on at night, people outside can see in more easily. If nighttime privacy matters, ask about a higher-blocking fabric or Soltis Opaque.
Which Screen Should I Get For A Wide Opening?
Summit goes up to 18 feet wide. Harbor, Vista, and Zenith go up to 23 feet. Past 18 feet, Harbor has a more limited fabric selection and Vista can’t use Tempotest or Sunbrella acrylics. Zenith’s maximum height is 10 feet, compared with 16 feet on Harbor and Vista.
Can I Control Screens From My Phone?
Yes, with a wireless motor and the Somfy® myLink. Corradi says it turns a phone or tablet into a remote and works with Alexa, IFTTT, and Google Home. You can also use a handheld remote, a wall switch, a timer, or sensors.
Can Screens Go On A Deck With A Railing?
Usually, but the layout takes some thought. The screen has to run past the railing or land on a sill, and that changes the size you order. We look at the railing and the floor on the first visit.
Do I Need A Permit For Exterior Screens In Naperville?
It depends on the job. If the screens are part of a new deck, porch, or pergola, the City requires an issued permit before work starts. Enclosing an existing porch or adding wiring can raise other questions, so we confirm what applies before you order. If your HOA has an architectural review, we prepare that package too.
Do You Need A Roof First?
You need something overhead to mount to, such as a covered porch, a pergola, or a soffit. If you don’t have one, we can build the deck and install a louvered roof or a retractable pergola along with the screens.
Where Are Corradi Screens Made?
Corradi USA makes the Summit, Harbor, and Vista in the United States. Corradi started in Italy in 1978 and has been in the U.S. since 2010.
