A Stunning Two-Level Transformation in Shorewood, IL

Before: The Space That Needed a Fresh Start

When we first visited the property, the backyard had potential — but it needed a vision. The homeowners dreamed of a modern, low-maintenance outdoor space that blended durability with elegance. That’s exactly what Wolf Spirit Deck delivered.

Our Build: Crafting Strength and Style

We designed and constructed a two-level deck totaling over 360 square feet — the upper deck measuring 190 sq. ft. and the lower deck 174 sq. ft., both seamlessly attached to the home’s vinyl siding exterior.

To ensure long-lasting stability and code compliance, this project was engineered under the 2021 International Residential Code (IRC) and Will County building standards.

Key construction highlights include:

  • Composite decking for a sleek, weather-resistant surface
  • Aluminum railings for a modern, low-maintenance finish
  • M2 Helical Piles for deep foundation support (see ESR-4892 compliance)
  • 6×6 pressure-treated posts and #2 grade Southern Yellow Pine framing for unmatched structural integrity
  • Double drop beams (2×10 and 2×12) with Simpson connectors and DTT1Z tension ties for enhanced safety
  • Concrete footings (10” diameter x 42” deep) beneath stair landings for solid support
  • Protective flashing and galvanized/stainless hardware for moisture and corrosion resistance

To finish the look, we leveled and dressed both decks with clean lines, modern rail spacing, and smooth transitions between levels — making it not just functional, but beautiful.

Now, the new two-level deck provides a versatile outdoor living space perfect for gatherings, grilling, or quiet evenings with a view. The homeowners love how the upper deck flows into the lower platform, creating zones for dining and relaxing while keeping maintenance simple year-round.
