A Pergotenda® retractable pergola is an aluminum frame with a fabric roof that slides open and closed from a remote. Leave it open for a clear evening sky, then pull it closed when the sun gets hot or the rain starts.
Wolf Spirit Deck is an authorized Corradi installer and a deck builder, so the frame gets planned with the deck, wall, or patio that has to carry it. Call (312) 765-3998 or request a free quote.

What Is A Retractable Pergola?
It’s a pergola with a roof you can put away. A folding canvas rides on aluminum runners, and a motor moves it from a wireless remote.
A wood pergola gives you partial shade and doesn’t help when it rains. A shingled porch roof handles the rain, but you lose the sky for good, and the rooms behind it can get darker. A retractable pergola lets you have open sky on a nice night and a closed roof the next afternoon.
Pergotenda® is Corradi’s name for its patented system, and Corradi is the only company that makes it. Its booklet describes the system as comfortable for “many months out of the year,” which is how we’d plan it in Naperville. It covers the long stretch of the year when you want to be outside. Winter is different, and the weather section below explains why.
We’re an authorized Corradi installer, and every installation is done by our own crew.

The Four Pergotenda® Models, And Which Yard Each One Suits
The first question is what the pergola will hold on to: its own posts, your house, or a frame you already have. These photos come from Corradi USA and show dealer projects outside Illinois.
Maestro
Premium With Integrated Options
This is the one to look at if the pergola will stand on its own in the yard, or if you want it to look built in. The gutters, motor, and hardware are all hidden, and water drains through the pillars. The canvas can reach 275 x 275 inches as a single surface with no center post.
You can choose curved tubes for better rainwater control or alternating trapezoidal panels for a different look. Corradi also sells the Maestro with rotating blades in place of canvas.
- Freestanding Or Wall-Mounted
- Hidden Motor And Gutters
- No Visible Screws
- Optional LEDs
- Sensors Available
Palladia®
Minimal And Wall-Mounted
For a deck or patio right off the back of the house, we’d usually start here. Corradi calls it its most popular Pergotenda®. It mounts to the wall or ceiling, and the roof can be flat or pitched.
A Wall to Wall version attaches at each end with special brackets and has no pillars or corner pieces, which suits a space between two walls.
- Wall Or Ceiling Mount
- Flat Or Pitched
- Optional Front Beam
- Stratus Screen Option
- Optional LEDs
Impact®
Made For Existing Frames
Corradi calls this the heart of every Pergotenda®: the retractable canvas and aluminum runners, without a frame of their own. It goes on a suitable existing structure or on one we build for it.
If you like your current pergola and only wish it kept the rain off, this is the one to ask about. We’d check first that your frame is sound and square enough to carry it.
- Fits Suitable Structures
- Flat Or Pitched
- Motorized
- Faux Ceiling Option
- Optional LEDs
B-Space
Covers Large Spaces
This is the largest aluminum Pergotenda®. It has the same functions as the other wall-mounted models at a bigger scale, with a projection of up to 354 inches. Corradi pitches it for hotel pool areas and restaurant rooftops.
Most houses won’t need one, but a large home with a long back wall might. It also comes in a Wall to Wall version.

Pergotenda® Sizes And Specifications
Width depends on how many runners the system uses, so the largest sizes below need the most runners. Projection is how far the roof reaches out from the wall.
| Model | Mounting | Largest Flat Size | Largest Pitched Size |
|---|---|---|---|
| Maestro | Freestanding or wall-mounted | Canvas up to 275 x 275 in (22’11” x 22’11”). The rotating-blade version goes up to 157 x 275 in | |
| Palladia® | Wall or ceiling. Wall to Wall version available | 413 x 236 in (34’5″ x 19’8″), or 413 x 256 in with trapezoidal fabric | 512 x 256 in (42’8″ x 21’4″) |
| Impact® | Suitable existing or new structure | 472 x 354 in (39’4″ x 29’6″) | 512 x 354 in (42’8″ x 29’6″) |
| B-Space | Wall or ceiling. Wall to Wall version available | 413 x 354 in (34’5″ x 29’6″), or 472 x 354 in with trapezoidal fabric | 512 x 354 in (42’8″ x 29’6″) |

What’s The Same On Palladia®, Impact®, And B-Space: a radio-controlled Dunker D839 motor, carriers on six asymmetrical wheels, and a toothed drive belt with stainless steel cables. Hardware is 304 stainless steel. Anti-drip and anti-spray details are standard. A pitched system with four or five runners needs two motors.
Flat Or Pitched: the canvas tubes sit about every 20 inches on a flat roof and about every 24 inches on a pitched one. Trapezoidal fabric is only for flat roofs. Retractable gutters and the five-runner size are only for pitched roofs, and a pitched roof leaves triangular openings at the sides that gables can close.

What A Canvas Roof Can And Can’t Do In Naperville Weather
A fabric roof handles sun and rain well, but snow is another matter. Corradi is direct about that, and we’d rather you hear it before you buy.
- SunClosed, the canopy shades the whole space. Eclissi is a blackout fabric, and Corradi’s Serge Ferrari solar fabrics are another choice. Low evening sun comes in from the side, which is where screens help.
- RainChoose a waterproof fabric and the canopy keeps rain off the space, with anti-drip and anti-spray details built in. Maestro has integrated gutters that drain through the pillars, and pitched Palladia®, Impact®, and B-Space systems can add a retractable gutter.
- WindCorradi classifies wind resistance under EN 13561, based on the specific configuration, so there isn’t one number for every Pergotenda®. Ask us for the figure on your size and layout before you order.
- SnowCorradi’s booklet says Pergotenda® is often used in regions with snowy winters, but it “cannot be guaranteed for specific snow loads.” We don’t treat the canopy as a snow roof. Plan on keeping it retracted when snow is coming, and we’ll show you how to set it for the off-season at the walkthrough.

Look at the Corradi Alba louvered roof. It’s aluminum overhead, and Corradi publishes a load figure for it. We install both, so we’ll tell you which one fits how you’d use the space.
Choosing A Canopy Fabric: Not All Of Them Are Waterproof
If you want rain cover, this choice matters as much as the model. Corradi’s booklet lists these for the Palladia®, Impact®, and B-Space, and only some are marked as waterproof. We’ll confirm the choices for a Maestro.
| Fabric | Marked Waterproof? | What To Know |
|---|---|---|
| EclissiGrey, White, Ivory | Yes | A blackout fabric that’s also fire retardant. Corradi USA uses it only on Pergotenda® structures, and the support tubes come in White Quartz, Glacier, or Beach Sand to match |
| Soltis Proof502 And W96 | Yes | Waterproof fabrics from Serge Ferrari |
| Soltis Solar FabricsHorizon 86, Perform 92, Harmony 88, Opaque | Not marked | Serge Ferrari tension vinyl and solar protection fabrics. If shade is the main goal, they’re worth comparing. If you want to stay dry, choose one of the waterproof fabrics above |

Screens, Lights, And Ceilings For A Pergotenda®
Most of these go on after you’ve chosen a model, though what’s available depends on which one you pick. We’ll tell you what works on yours.

Stratus Side Screens
Stratus screens drop down the sides for privacy and protection from sun and insects. They come manual or motorized, and Corradi recommends ShyZip® tracks for a complete enclosure. Some size limits apply. This photo shows them on an Alba, and the same screens are made for Pergotenda®.
Dimmable LED Lights
The LEDs sit inside the canopy’s intermediate tubes, so you don’t have fixtures hanging from the frame. They’re dimmable, which lets you keep using the space after dark.

Faux Ceilings
An adapted tube holds a decorative canvas under the roof, in Para Tempotest® Home Solids fabric. It comes in a range of solid colors and makes a covered patio feel more like a room.

Gables And Curtains
On a pitched roof, gables close the triangles at the sides, using clear vinyl, Eclissi, or Serge Ferrari® fabric. Corradi’s gallery also shows Palladia® systems with curtains, so tell us if you’d like that look.
Frame Colors
Corradi offers nine standard colors, and custom RAL powder coating is also available. Corradi warns that printed samples aren’t accurate enough for a final decision, and that goes for a phone or monitor too.

Retractable Pergola Or Louvered Roof?
People often compare these two. We install both, and the right choice usually comes down to how much sky you want and what you expect from the roof in winter.
| Retractable Pergola (Pergotenda®) | Louvered Roof (Corradi Alba) | |
|---|---|---|
| Roof | Folding fabric canopy | Rotating aluminum blades |
| When Open | The canvas slides back, leaving open sky between the frame members | The blades rotate up to 150° and stay overhead |
| Control | Move the canopy to open or close it | Angle the blades to adjust sun and airflow |
| Rain | Covered, with a waterproof fabric | Waterproof with the blades fully closed |
| Snow | Corradi can’t guarantee it for specific snow loads | Corradi publishes a maximum payload, which depends on size, and recommends blades at 90° in snow |
| Largest Sizes | Up to 512 in wide, depending on the model | 177 x 238 in single module, 236 x 238 in double module |

Not Sure Which Model Fits Your House?
We’ll look at the wall, deck, or frame you have, narrow it down to one or two models, and give you an itemized quote. The consultation is free.
What We Check Before A Pergola Goes On Your House Or Deck
The canopy arrives made to measure. How well it works depends on what it’s fastened to, and that part is our trade.
-
A Wall-Mounted Palladia®
The house carries one side of the roof. We look at what’s behind the siding and plan the flashing, and we make sure the height clears the windows and eaves above.
-
An Impact® On Your Pergola
We check whether the existing frame is sound and square enough to carry the runners. If it isn’t, we’ll tell you what it would take to fix it or build a new one.
-
A Freestanding Maestro
The posts need their own footings, and the water that drains through the pillars needs somewhere to go. We plan both with the layout.
-
Over A New Deck
Footings and blocking go in before the boards do, which is the easy way. Tell us about the pergola now, whether we’re building a composite deck or one with steel framing.
-
Over An Existing Deck
Posts bolted through deck boards are a common failure. We check the framing and footings first, then tell you plainly whether the deck can take it.
-
Over A Patio
Pavers and many older slabs weren’t built to hold a post. We look at what’s underneath and plan footings where the posts land, and a wall-mounted model may need fewer of them.

Pergola Permits And HOA Rules In Naperville
We’ve pulled hundreds of deck permits in Naperville, and we handle the paperwork for pergolas the same way.
- City PermitThe City of Naperville requires an issued permit before work starts on decks, patios, open porches, and other secondary structures. An open pergola built into a deck’s design and separate from the main building can be included with the deck, but a roof fastened to the house may be handled differently. We confirm which applies, and ask about any snow load requirement, before anything is ordered. If that requirement conflicts with what Corradi can guarantee, we’ll tell you then.
- HOA ReviewTall Grass, White Eagle, and Ashbury all want a submittal package before you build, and we’ve been through the process with each. For a pergola, expect to show the frame color and the fabric. We put the package together and send it in.
- Electric Lines And DiggingNaperville’s electric utility keeps deck posts 18 inches to the side of underground service lines and calls for overhead lines to be 10 feet above a deck or patio. Moving a line is at the owner’s expense and can cost thousands, so we check before you commit. If the job needs digging, we call J.U.L.I.E. at 811 at least 48 hours ahead.
From First Visit To First Open
The same company handles the structure, the paperwork, and the install.
- Free On-Site VisitWe measure and look at the wall, deck, patio, or frame. We also note where the sun comes from, how exposed the spot is, and where the utility lines run.
- Choosing The Model And FabricWe narrow the line to one or two models, then work through flat or pitched, fabric, frame color, lighting, and screens. You get the quote in writing, itemized line by line.
- Permit And HOAWe find out what the City (or your town) and your HOA need, prepare the drawings, and submit them.
- Getting The Structure ReadyCorradi builds each system to measure. While yours is in production, we do any footings, framing, or deck work so everything is ready when it arrives.
- Installation And WalkthroughOur crew installs the system and sets up the motor and remote. Before we leave, we run the canopy with you and go over what to do when snow is coming.
What Affects The Cost Of A Retractable Pergola In Naperville
Every Pergotenda® is made to measure, so we don’t publish a price list. These are the choices that move the number on your quote.
-
Model
An Impact® on a frame you already have, a wall-mounted Palladia®, and a freestanding Maestro are very different jobs.
-
Width And Runners
Wider roofs use more runners. A pitched system with four or five runners also needs two motors.
-
Flat Or Pitched
The roof style affects the sizes available and whether you can add a retractable gutter or gables.
-
Fabric
Your fabric choice affects both the look and how the canopy handles rain, so it’s worth deciding early.
-
Lights, Screens, And Ceilings
LEDs, Stratus screens, and faux ceilings are all optional, and they’re priced on top of the base system.
-
What It Fastens To
Footings, framing repairs, or a new deck can be part of the job. A meter or service line in the way can change the layout, too.
The People Installing Your Pergola
Wolf Spirit Deck is a family-run company started by Radu Oprea, who spent years on jobsites learning how decks fail in Illinois weather.
We built our name on decks and Corradi is a newer part of what we do, so most of the reviews below mention decks. The same office and the same crew would handle your pergola.

Retractable Pergola Questions We Hear In Naperville
What Is A Pergotenda®?
Pergotenda® is Corradi’s patented retractable roof system. An aluminum structure carries a folding canvas that opens and closes by wireless remote. Maestro, Palladia®, Impact®, and B-Space are the four models Corradi USA sells.
How Much Does A Retractable Pergola Cost In Naperville?
It depends on the model, size, fabric, options, and what the system fastens to. Each one is made to measure, so we don’t publish a price list. We’ll measure, go through the options with you, and give you an itemized written quote at no charge.
Is A Retractable Pergola Waterproof?
It depends on the fabric. Corradi marks Eclissi and Soltis Proof 502 and W96 as waterproof, while its other Serge Ferrari fabrics are listed for tension and solar protection. If rain cover matters to you, choose one of the waterproof fabrics and ask us about gutters for your model.
Can A Retractable Pergola Handle Naperville Snow?
Don’t count on the canopy as a snow roof. Corradi says Pergotenda® is often used in regions with snowy winters, but it cannot be guaranteed for specific snow loads. Plan on keeping it retracted when snow is coming, and we’ll show you how to set it for the off-season. If you want overhead cover through winter, look at the Corradi Alba louvered roof.
How Much Wind Can It Take?
Corradi classifies wind resistance under EN 13561, based on the specific configuration, so there isn’t one number for all models. Ask us for the figure on your size and layout before you order.
Which Model Is Best For A Deck Off The Back Of The House?
We’d usually start with the Palladia®, since it mounts to the house wall or ceiling. If the wall can’t take it, or you want the pergola away from the house, a freestanding Maestro is the next one to look at.
Can You Add A Retractable Roof To My Existing Pergola?
Often, yes. That’s what the Impact® is for. It’s the retractable canvas and runners without a frame, and it installs on a suitable existing structure. We check first that your pergola is sound and square enough to carry it.
How Big Can A Retractable Pergola Be?
The Maestro’s canvas goes up to 275 x 275 inches with no center post. The Palladia® reaches 512 x 256 inches when pitched, and the Impact® and B-Space reach 512 x 354 inches when pitched. Width depends on the number of runners.
Do I Need A Permit For A Pergola In Naperville?
Plan on it. The City of Naperville requires an issued building permit before work on decks, patios, open porches, and other secondary structures on a residential property. We prepare the drawings, submit them, and stand for the inspections. If your HOA has an architectural review, we prepare that package too.
What’s The Difference Between A Retractable Pergola And A Louvered Roof?
A retractable pergola has a fabric canopy that slides back to leave open sky. A louvered roof has aluminum blades that rotate and stay overhead. If you want the whole sky on a nice evening, look at a Pergotenda®. If you want to adjust sun and air through the day, or you want a roof with a published load figure, look at the Alba louvered roof.
Can I Add Lights And Side Screens?
Yes. Dimmable LEDs fit inside the canopy’s intermediate tubes, and Stratus screens drop down the sides, manual or motorized. Maestro has its own integrated screens. Availability varies by model, so we’ll confirm what works on yours.
How Long Does A Pergola Project Take?
Each system is made to measure, so the timeline starts with production. We confirm the lead time when you order and schedule any footings, framing, or deck work so everything is ready when it arrives. City permit review on our deck projects takes about two to four weeks, and HOA review can add time.
